Category: Server and Hardware Management

Description: Manages Sun Netra CT Remote System Control (RSC) card monitoring and control operations.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SUN-SNMP-NETRA-CT-RSC-MIB?

SUN-SNMP-NETRA-CT-RSC-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Sun Microsystems for the Remote System Control (RSC) card used in the Netra ct 400/800 carrier-grade telecom server chassis, providing out-of-band management of the host system. It exposes administrative control objects for remotely resetting the RSC card or host, asserting XIR/NMI/break signals, plus identification data such as hostname, customer information, and boot firmware version, along with global flags for paging, email, and IP/PPP connectivity modes. Monitoring and controlling this MIB gives an administrator direct visibility into and control over host hardware status, letting them confirm firmware/boot version, verify remote-alert delivery settings (page/email), and issue hardware resets or diagnostic signals (NMI, break, XIR) when the host is unresponsive. It is specific to Sun's Netra ct RSC lightweight management processor and does not appear to depend on other standard MIBs beyond baseline SNMP SMI conventions. It is deployed in carrier/telecom environments using Netra ct 400/800 chassis where the RSC card provides lights-out remote management of the compute blades. Engineers can download the SUN-SNMP-NETRA-CT-RSC-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SUN-SNMP-NETRA-CT-RSC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Sun Netra ct 400/800 carrier-grade server chassis
  • Netra ct Remote System Control (RSC) card

Monitoring Examples

An admin can poll netraCtRscHostname and netraCtRscVersionBootMajor to confirm the identity and firmware version of a Netra ct blade's RSC card, and check netraCtRscGlobalPageFlag/netraCtRscGlobalEmailFlag to verify remote alerting is enabled. If the host becomes unresponsive, the admin can set netraCtRscAdminHostReset or netraCtRscAdminXir/netraCtRscAdminNmi to force a hardware reset or diagnostic dump, using netraCtRscAdminRscReset only if the RSC card itself needs to be restarted.

What Can Be Monitored

  • RSC/host reset control status
  • boot firmware version
  • hostname/customer identification
  • remote alert (page/email) flag status
  • IP/PPP connectivity mode flags
