Description: Monitors Sonus Networks softswitch RTCP media stream quality metrics including jitter, packet loss, and MOS.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SONUS-RTCP-MIB?

SONUS-RTCP-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Sonus Networks (a VoIP/softswitch and session border controller vendor, now part of Ribbon Communications) for monitoring RTCP (RTP Control Protocol) statistics on media streams handled by its softswitch/media gateway platforms. It exposes shelf-level administrative configuration (sampling and establishment intervals, trap-history table sizes) as well as per-slot trap status for RTCP link-loss and stream-absence events. Its principal monitoring value is around software/media-quality health rather than classic hardware sensors: it tracks whether RTCP link-loss or session-absence conditions have been detected on a given slot, and lets an operator size and reset the historical trap tables used to log those events. No explicit cross-MIB dependency is indicated, though it fits within Sonus's broader shelf/slot chassis MIB family for physical layout addressing. It is deployed in carrier and enterprise VoIP networks on Sonus softswitches/media gateways to verify real-time media stream quality and detect call-quality degradation through SONUS-RTCP-MIB SNMP monitoring.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SONUS-RTCP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Sonus Networks softswitch
  • Sonus media gateway / session border controller

Monitoring Examples

An operator would monitor sonusRtcpSlotLinkLossTrapStatusTable, keyed by sonusRtcpSlotLinkLossTrapStatShelfIndex, to see whether RTCP link-loss traps have fired on a given shelf/slot, indicating a media path is not receiving expected control packets from the far end. sonusRtcpShelfAdmnLossTrapHistoryEntries and sonusRtcpShelfAdmnAbsenceTrapHistoryEntries configure how much trap history is retained, and sonusRtcpShelfAdmnEstablishInterval governs how quickly a new RTCP session is expected to be confirmed, with a repeated failure to establish flagging a persistent signaling or media-path problem.

What Can Be Monitored

  • RTCP link-loss trap status per slot
  • RTCP stream-absence trap status
  • trap history table size/reset
  • RTCP sampling interval
  • session establishment interval
