Category: Server and Host Management, Siemens Nixdorf Server Management
Description: Monitors Siemens Nixdorf Unix host performance, process status, file system utilization, and system health.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is SNI-UNIX-MIB?
SNI-UNIX-MIB is a Siemens Nixdorf (SNI, later Fujitsu Siemens) vendor MIB for monitoring Unix-based host systems, likely their RM/PRIMEPOWER or similar Unix server line. It exposes system-level configuration (max users, max processors, time zone, run level) alongside real-time performance data such as current logins, system average utilization, and server memory usage. It is explicitly built for hardware/software status monitoring of the Unix host: CPU/system load via sniUXSystemAverageUtilisation, memory via sniUXServerMemory, per-process status via the sniUXProcessTable, and overall run state via sniUXRunLevel. It parallels the standard Host Resources MIB (HOST-RESOURCES-MIB) but with SNI-specific process and system fields. It would be deployed wherever Siemens Nixdorf Unix servers are managed centrally via SNMP in a data center or enterprise environment. Engineers can download the SNI-UNIX-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SNI-UNIX-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Siemens Nixdorf Unix server
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll sniUXSystemAverageUtilisation for CPU load trends and sniUXServerMemory for memory pressure, alerting if utilization stays abnormally high. sniUXCurrentLogins and sniUXMaxUsers would be compared to detect a server approaching its licensed or configured user-session ceiling. The sniUXProcessTable/sniUXProcessEntry, indexed by sniUXProcessIndex, lets an admin enumerate running processes to spot a runaway or hung process, while sniUXRunLevel confirms the system is in the expected multi-user run state rather than single-user/maintenance mode.
What Can Be Monitored
- CPU/system utilization
- server memory usage
- current user logins
- process table/status
- system run level
- time zone configuration
