Category: Server and Host Management, Siemens Nixdorf Server Management

Description: Manages Siemens Nixdorf server BIOS configuration parameters, POST results, and firmware version reporting.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SNI-BIOS-MIB?

SNI-BIOS-MIB is a vendor MIB from Siemens Nixdorf (SNI) for reporting server BIOS-level configuration and diagnostics on SNI server hardware. It exposes BIOS version information, POST/diagnostic status, and per-processor configuration and state within a processor table. Its focus is squarely on hardware and firmware status monitoring: administrators use it to confirm the installed BIOS major/minor version matches expectations, check the diagnostic status from the last power-on self-test, and verify each CPU socket reports a healthy operational state, plus review basic memory configuration reported by the BIOS. It is a standalone proprietary MIB specific to Siemens Nixdorf hardware management, without notable dependency on other vendor MIBs beyond standard SNMP conventions. It is typically deployed in enterprise data centers running legacy Siemens Nixdorf (later Fujitsu Siemens) server hardware, polled by hardware management agents for firmware and processor health tracking. Engineers can download the SNI-BIOS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SNI-BIOS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Siemens Nixdorf server hardware

Monitoring Examples

An admin would check sniBiosVersionMajor and sniBiosVersionMinor to confirm all servers in a fleet run a consistent, supported BIOS revision, and poll sniBiosDiagnosticStatus to catch a failed POST diagnostic after a reboot. The sniProcessorEntryTable (via sniBIOSProcessorIndex/sniBIOSProcessor) lets an operator verify sniBIOSProcessorState reports each CPU as present and functional, revealing a failed or disabled processor socket. sniBIOSMemory would similarly be checked to confirm the BIOS-reported memory configuration matches the expected installed capacity.

What Can Be Monitored

  • BIOS version
  • POST/diagnostic status
  • per-processor state
  • processor inventory/configuration
  • BIOS-reported memory configuration
