What Is SNI-HD-MIB?

SNI-HD-MIB is a vendor MIB from Siemens Nixdorf for monitoring hard disk drive and disk adapter status on SNI server hardware. It exposes an adapter table describing each disk controller's bus type, bus/adapter number, name, driver, and the devices/slots attached to it, along with adapter operational status. This MIB is explicitly hardware-status oriented: it lets an administrator confirm each storage adapter and its attached disk devices are reporting a healthy status, catching a failed adapter or disk before it causes data loss, and providing visibility into which driver and bus type is servicing each storage subsystem. It is a standalone proprietary MIB dependent only on standard SNMP conventions, not on other vendor MIBs. Typical deployment is in enterprise data centers running Siemens Nixdorf (later Fujitsu Siemens) server hardware, where it's polled alongside SNI-BIOS-MIB for full hardware health visibility. Engineers can download the SNI-HD-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll sniHDAdapterTable (via sniHDAdapter/sniHDAdapterNo) to check sniHDAdapterStatus for each disk adapter, confirming the storage subsystem is healthy. Reviewing sniHDAdapterChildren and sniHDAdapterDevices reveals how many disks are attached to a given adapter and their configured slot (sniHDAdapterSlot), helping correlate a status change to a specific physical drive bay. A status change on a specific sniHDAdapterBusNo/sniHDAdapterSlot combination would flag a failing disk or loose adapter connection requiring physical inspection.
