What Is SNI-MYLEX-MIB?

This is a vendor-specific MIB, originally from Mylex and rebranded under Siemens Nixdorf (SNI), for managing Mylex RAID controllers installed in SNI servers. It exposes RAID agent identity/version information, API error status, and a table of host adapters attached to the RAID subsystem, along with trap definitions for controller events. Its central monitoring purpose is hardware/software status of the storage subsystem: administrators track mylexAgentVersion/mylexAgentBuild to confirm the management agent's software revision, watch mylexApiLastErrorMsg for API-level failures, and enumerate mylexAdapterHostTable entries to verify each RAID host adapter is recognized and healthy, which together surface degraded arrays, failed controllers, or communication problems with the RAID hardware before data loss occurs. It has an implicit but undocumented dependency on the underlying Mylex RAID controller firmware and its proprietary management API. It is deployed in Siemens Nixdorf servers using Mylex RAID controllers for disk array protection in enterprise data centers, where SNI-MYLEX-MIB SNMP monitoring helps catch a degraded array before data loss occurs.

Monitoring Examples

An operator checks mylexAgentVersion, mylexAgentVersionMajor, and mylexAgentVersionMinor to confirm the RAID management agent's software build, and polls mylexApiLastErrorMsg to detect the controller's API reporting an error such as a failed drive access. The mylexAdapterHostTable (mylexAdapterHost entries) lists each host adapter connected to the RAID subsystem, letting an admin verify all expected adapters are present after a hardware change. mylexTrapInfo carries event notifications, such as an array degradation or rebuild event, that the SNMP manager can correlate with the last API error.
