All MIBs › SMC-AGENT-MIB
Category: Ethernet and LAN Management, Server and Host Management
Description: Manages SMC Networks device agent configuration, system identification, and SNMP operational parameters.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is SMC-AGENT-MIB?
SMC-AGENT-MIB is an enterprise MIB from SMC Networks for its host/workstation-resident SNMP agent, historically used to manage DOS-based network workstations and their local network adapter. It exposes system identification and agent operational parameters, plus DOS-workstation-specific tables covering local drive space and configured SNMP trap destinations. Its monitoring role centers on basic software/host health for the managed workstation: tracking available drive space as an early disk-full warning, and confirming trap destinations are correctly configured so alerts actually reach a management station. It relies on the base community-based SNMPv1/v2c framework typical of its era rather than any newer security or transport-layer MIB. It was deployed on SMC Networks-equipped DOS workstations in legacy LAN environments where a lightweight host agent supplemented the network adapter's own management functions, and administrators could download the SMC-AGENT-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser for this legacy monitoring.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SMC-AGENT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- SMC Networks-managed DOS workstation/host agent
Monitoring Examples
An admin would poll smcDosWsDrvSpcTable to check remaining local drive space on each managed DOS workstation and catch one running low before it fails to write log or swap files, while smcDosWsTrapDestTable confirms the workstation is still configured to send its traps to the correct management console. The smc and smcDosWs subtree objects provide basic identification of which SMC-managed hosts are present.
What Can Be Monitored
- local drive/disk space remaining
- configured trap destination addresses
- workstation identification
