Category: Disk and Storage Health Monitoring, NetApp Storage Management
Description: Manages NetApp SM10 R3 storage module shelf configuration, drive inventory, and hardware health monitoring.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is SM10-R3-MIB?
SM10-R3-MIB belongs to NetApp's SANtricity Storage Manager software for E-Series storage systems, covering the SM10 R3 storage shelf hardware generation. It exposes managed objects for storage server identification, shelf/drive inventory, and hardware health, along with a dedicated trap base for fault notifications. Its core purpose is hardware status monitoring: administrators use it to track drive and shelf module health, detect component failures, and receive SNMP traps when a storage server or shelf experiences a fault condition. It is a self-contained vendor MIB (under the NetApp/Engenio enterprise tree) with its own conformance statements, not dependent on other vendor MIBs beyond standard SNMP infrastructure. Deployment is in enterprise/data-center SANs running E-Series arrays, monitored by NetApp management tools or third-party NMS platforms via SNMP polling and trap reception. Engineers can download the SM10-R3-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SM10-R3-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- NetApp E-Series storage system
- SM10 R3 storage shelf
Monitoring Examples
An admin would poll storageServer and related shelf objects to verify the E-Series storage system's controller and shelf hardware report a healthy state, while subscribing to sm10R3TrapBase notifications to be alerted immediately if a drive, power supply, or shelf module fails. The smConformance group defines the compliance statements for agent implementations. A rising count of trap events tied to storageServer status changes would indicate a developing hardware problem worth investigating before it escalates to an outage.
What Can Be Monitored
- storage server status
- shelf/drive hardware health
- fault trap notifications
- storage manager conformance state
