Category: Server and Host Management, Siemens Nixdorf Server Management

Description: Monitors Siemens Nixdorf NetWare server file system utilization, NLM status, and connection statistics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SNI-NETWARE-MIB?

SNI-NETWARE-MIB is a Siemens Nixdorf (SNI) enterprise MIB for monitoring Novell NetWare file servers running on SNI-branded server hardware, common in enterprise LANs of the 1990s. It exposes NetWare server identification and version data alongside capacity/utilization figures, including maximum vs. in-use client connections, maximum supported volumes, and peak connection counts. Its monitoring focus is software/service-capacity health: tracking how close a NetWare server is to its configured connection or volume limits, plus SFT (System Fault Tolerance) and TTS (Transaction Tracking System) levels indicating the server's data-protection features are active, alongside basic version/revision reporting. It depends on Novell's underlying NetWare NLM/bindery architecture for the concepts it exposes but is an SNI-proprietary translation of that data into SNMP rather than a standard NetWare MIB. It was deployed on Siemens Nixdorf server hardware running NetWare in enterprise file/print-server environments needing connection-capacity and fault-tolerance-level visibility. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the SNI-NETWARE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SNI-NETWARE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Siemens Nixdorf server hardware running Novell NetWare

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll sniNWConnectionsInUse against sniNWMaxConnectionsSupported to see how close the file server is to its connection ceiling, and check sniNWPeakUsedConnections to understand historical peak load for capacity planning. sniNWSFTLevel and sniNWTTSLevel confirm the server's fault-tolerance and transaction-tracking features remain enabled, which matters for data-integrity guarantees on a production file server.

What Can Be Monitored

  • client connections in use vs. supported maximum
  • peak connection count
  • supported volume count
  • SFT/TTS fault-tolerance levels
  • NetWare version/revision
