What Is SNI-INVENTORY-MIB?

SNI-INVENTORY-MIB is a legacy vendor MIB from Siemens Nixdorf (a predecessor to Fujitsu Siemens server lines) exposing hardware and software inventory information for their server systems. It covers inventory-style data such as hardware revision levels, host operating system identity/version, and configurable threshold variables for monitored quantities. For status monitoring it notably tracks host OS type and version (sniInvHostOS, sniInvHostOSRevMajor/Minor), overall system condition (sniInvCondition), and user-defined threshold crossings via sniThresholdVariableTable, giving basic software-version and health-condition visibility. It defines its own custom SYNTAX/textual conventions rather than leaning heavily on other MIBs, reflecting its origin as a largely self-contained legacy inventory MIB. It would have been deployed in data centers running Siemens Nixdorf server hardware for asset tracking and basic condition monitoring. Engineers can download the SNI-INVENTORY-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples

An admin could poll sniInvCondition for an overall system health/condition code, sniInvHostOS/sniInvHostOSId together with sniInvHostOSRevMajor/sniInvHostOSRevMinor to confirm the exact operating system and version running on the host, and sniInvHostName to identify the target. The sniThresholdVariableTable (sniThresholdVariableEntry, sniThresholdVariable) would be walked to see which measured values have configurable alerting thresholds, flagging when a monitored variable crosses its configured limit.
