Category: Server and Host Management, Siemens Nixdorf Server Management
Description: Monitors Siemens Nixdorf OS/2 host system performance, process status, and resource utilization.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is SNI-OS2-MIB?
SNI-OS2-MIB is a vendor-specific SNMP module from Siemens Nixdorf covering the OS/2-based server operating system used on SNI host systems. It exposes data about the OS/2 server's identity (server name, domain, system type) and its configured capacity limits (max connections, users, shares) alongside real-time operational counters. It is explicitly useful for monitoring software status of the host: administrators can track current sessions and current services running on the server, the OS/2 version in use, and swap file size as an indicator of memory pressure. The MIB is a self-contained enterprise module with no apparent dependency beyond standard SNMPv1/v2 SMI conventions. It would typically be deployed on legacy Siemens Nixdorf OS/2 LAN servers to give network management stations visibility into server load and health without needing OS/2-native tools. Engineers can download the SNI-OS2-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SNI-OS2-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Siemens Nixdorf OS/2 server
- legacy OS/2-based network server
Monitoring Examples
An admin could poll sniOS2ServerCurrentSessions and sniOS2ServerCurrentServices alongside sniOS2ServerMaxConnections and sniOS2ServerMaxUsers to see how close the server is to its configured capacity limits. Watching sniOS2SwappFileSize grow over time can reveal memory exhaustion before it causes performance degradation. sniOS2VersionMajor and sniOS2VersionMinor let an inventory tool confirm which OS/2 server build is running across a fleet.
What Can Be Monitored
- current sessions
- current services
- swap file size
- max connections/users/shares
- OS/2 version
- supported adapters
