Description: MIB for SmartOptics SiteLight WDM multiplexer interfaces, exposing mux type, channel wavelength spacing, and wavelength assignments in nm

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SL-MUX-MIB?

SL-MUX-MIB is a proprietary MIB from Smartoptics describing the WDM (wavelength-division multiplexing) multiplexer interfaces on its SiteLight optical transport platform. Its data is configuration/inventory-oriented, covering the type of mux interface, its channel wavelength spacing, and the specific wavelength assigned to each channel including the optical supervisory channel. As a hardware-status tool it lets an operator confirm that each optical multiplexer port is provisioned with the correct wavelength and spacing plan, which is essential for verifying DWDM channel assignments are correct and for diagnosing wavelength-plan mismatches between two ends of an optical link. It is a self-contained Smartoptics-specific module with no dependency on external IETF standard MIBs apparent. It is deployed on Smartoptics SiteLight optical transport nodes in metro/DWDM optical networks carrying multiple wavelength channels over shared fiber, where SL-MUX-MIB SNMP monitoring helps confirm channel plans stay correctly provisioned.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SL-MUX-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Smartoptics SiteLight optical transport equipment

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll the muxIfTable, indexed by muxIfIndex, to read muxIfType, muxIfWaveSpacing, and muxIfWaveLengthNm for each multiplexer port, confirming the assigned wavelength matches the network's channel plan. The muxIfOscWaveLengthNm object would be checked separately to verify the optical supervisory channel wavelength is correctly configured for management traffic. A mismatch between two ends of a DWDM link's muxIfWaveLengthNm values would explain an unexpected loss of optical signal.

What Can Be Monitored

  • mux interface type
  • channel wavelength spacing
  • assigned wavelength (nm) per channel
  • optical supervisory channel wavelength
