Description: MIB for managing Dispersion Compensation Module (DCM) parameters — range, spacing, fiber coefficient, and dispersion limits — on Smartoptics SiteLight optical transport equipment

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SL-DCM-MIB?

SL-DCM-MIB is a vendor MIB from Smartoptics for the Dispersion Compensation Module (DCM) component of its SiteLight optical transport platform, used in DWDM/optical networking to counteract chromatic dispersion in long-haul fiber links. It exposes configuration and status data for each installed DCM card, including the dispersion range it compensates for, channel spacing, and the fiber type coefficient used in its compensation calculation. Its monitoring role centers on hardware health and operating conditions of the optical module: dcmTemperature reports the card's thermal state, dcmIsActive shows whether the module is currently in service, and dcmMinDispersion/dcmMaxDispersion define the compensation window the card is rated for, letting operators detect a card that is out of range or overheating. As part of the broader SiteLight product family it likely shares indexing and trap conventions with sibling MIBs like SL-EDFA-MIB and SL-EVENT-MIB. It is deployed in metro/long-haul DWDM optical transport nodes where dispersion compensation modules are installed alongside amplifiers and transponders. Engineers can download the SL-DCM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SL-DCM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Smartoptics SiteLight optical transport platform (DCM module)

Monitoring Examples

A network engineer polls dcmTable/dcmEntry indexed by dcmIndex to enumerate each DCM card in a chassis, reading dcmTemperature to check for thermal anomalies and dcmIsActive to confirm the card is actually in the optical path rather than in standby. dcmRange and dcmSpacing describe the module's compensation capability, while dcmMinDispersion and dcmMaxDispersion combined with dcmFiberCoefficient let the engineer verify the card is correctly matched to the fiber span it is compensating for — a mismatch here would explain unexplained signal degradation on that link.

What Can Be Monitored

  • DCM card temperature
  • module active/in-service status
  • dispersion compensation range
  • channel spacing setting
  • min/max dispersion limits
  • fiber coefficient setting
