Description: Nokia Siemens Networks SHE DSLAM IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol (PTP) configuration covering default, current, parent, and port datasets on hiX-series access nodes

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SHE-PTP-MIB?

SHE-PTP-MIB is a Nokia Siemens Networks module for the SHE/hiX DSLAM platform implementing IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol (PTP) configuration and status, modeled on an early IEEE 1588 working-group MIB proposal. It defines the PTP default, current, parent, global-time-properties, foreign-master, and port-configuration datasets used to synchronize the DSLAM's clock to a PTP grandmaster. Its monitoring role is both configuration and status: it lets an operator confirm the node's PTP port state and its current/parent dataset (which grandmaster it's synchronized to, offset/delay figures) to catch clock-synchronization problems that would otherwise degrade time-sensitive services carried over the access node. It is explicitly based on the IEEE 1588 PTP standard/working-group MIB draft, making IEEE 1588 its core dependency. It is deployed on Nokia Siemens Networks hiX-series DSLAM access nodes (introduced with software release R3.7M) wherever precise time synchronization is required across the access network. Engineers can download the SHE-PTP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SHE-PTP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nokia Siemens Networks SHE/hiX-series DSLAM access node
  • Nokia Siemens Networks (Nokia) transport equipment (PTP timing)

Monitoring Examples

No specific object/table names were captured in this extract, but per the module description an operator would check the PTP current-dataset and parent-dataset objects to confirm which grandmaster clock the DSLAM is synchronized to and its reported offset, and review per-port PTP configuration to verify a given uplink port is correctly enabled for PTP participation rather than silently falling back to free-running/unsynchronized timing.

What Can Be Monitored

  • PTP synchronization state
  • grandmaster/parent clock identity
  • clock offset/delay
  • per-port PTP configuration
