Category: IETF Standards MIBs

Description: Monitors IETF Service Location Protocol agent registration, scope membership, and DA discovery.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SERVICE-LOCATION-PROTOCOL-MIB?

SERVICE-LOCATION-PROTOCOL-MIB is the standard MIB from the SLP (Service Location Protocol) open-source project (hosted at SourceForge) for read-only monitoring of SLP Directory Agents (DAs), Service Agents (SAs), and User Agents (UAs). Its agent table records name, type, broadcast-only flag, active/passive DA-discovery support, supported message types, and supported extensions, a scope table records configured SLP scopes and their source, an address table records agent addresses, and an attribute table records SLP attributes. As a status MIB it lets an administrator confirm which SLP scopes and message types a directory/service agent supports when diagnosing service-discovery problems. It is deployed on systems running an SLP implementation. Engineers can download the SERVICE-LOCATION-PROTOCOL-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SERVICE-LOCATION-PROTOCOL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Systems running an SLP (Service Location Protocol) implementation

Monitoring Examples

An administrator checks slpAgentMessageTypesSupported to confirm a Directory Agent supports the expected SLP message types when troubleshooting a service-discovery failure.

What Can Be Monitored

  • SLP agent scope, address, and capability configuration
