Last Updated: 2000-07-08

Category: Enterprise SMI and Registration, IETF Standards MIBs, SIP and VoIP Protocol, VoIP and Media Gateway

Description: Defines IETF SIP working group textual conventions for SIP transport, method, and response codes.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SIP-TC?

SIP-TC is the IETF SIP MIB working group's textual-conventions module, a vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB that defines shared SNMP data types used across the family of Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) MIB modules. It defines types for SIP transport protocols, SIP method names, and SIP response status code ranges, but no runtime objects of its own. It exposes no hardware or software status directly; instead, other SIP MIBs (such as those covering SIP registrar, proxy, or user-agent behavior) import these conventions to define the actual pollable call-, registration-, and session-status counters that reflect a SIP server or gateway's operational health. As an explicit dependency-only module, it is imported by essentially every other module in the IETF SIP MIB family rather than depending on anything itself. It is relevant wherever IETF SIP MIBs are implemented, such as on VoIP SIP proxy servers, registrars, gateways, and user agents that expose SNMP-based SIP management, making this SIP-TC reference foundational to the entire IETF SIP MIB family.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SIP-TC. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB (IETF SIP MIB family), not tied to a specific manufacturer
  • SIP proxy server, registrar, gateway, or user agent

Monitoring Examples

This module defines only TEXTUAL-CONVENTION data types (for SIP transports, methods, and response codes), not runtime objects, so no monitoring scenario applies directly to it; the actual pollable SIP call, session, and registration counters live in the downstream SIP MIB modules that import these conventions, such as a SIP server's active-session or registration-count objects.
