Last Updated: 1998-08-20

Category: IETF Standards MIBs

Description: Manages IETF Server Cache Synchronization Protocol server group membership and cache state.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SCSP-MIB?

SCSP-MIB is an IETF standards-track module for managing entities implementing the Server Cache Synchronization Protocol (SCSP), a generic protocol used to replicate cache state across servers in protocols such as NHRP and MARS. It models server group membership, cache alignment/synchronization state, and the relationships between SCSP servers participating in a distributed cache. Its primary monitoring value is software/protocol-level status rather than physical hardware: administrators use it to confirm a server's cache synchronization sessions are established and healthy, and to detect servers that have fallen out of sync with their peer group. As a base protocol MIB, it is typically referenced by higher-layer client protocol MIBs (e.g. NHRP or MARS management modules) that build directory or address-resolution caches on top of SCSP. It is deployed in ATM/NBMA network environments where multiple servers must keep a replicated cache consistent, such as ATM-based IP internetworking equipment. Engineers implementing or auditing this functionality typically reference the SCSP-MIB RFC/standard documentation for the authoritative specification.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SCSP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
  • ATM/NBMA server or router implementing SCSP-based caching (e.g. NHRP/MARS servers)

Monitoring Examples

No object/table names were surfaced in this extract, so a concrete polling walk cannot be grounded in real identifiers; in general use an operator would expect to walk per-server-group and per-cache-entry tables to confirm synchronization state matches across the group and to catch a server stuck in an unsynchronized or aligning state.

What Can Be Monitored

  • server group membership
  • cache synchronization status
  • cache alignment state per server
