Category: ATM and Frame Relay, Securicor WAN Router Management, WAN and Routing

Description: Manages Securicor WAN router Frame Relay extension parameters and PVC statistics.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SCA-FREXT-MIB?

SCA-FREXT-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Securicor (SCA) for extended Frame Relay circuit management on their WAN routers, layering additional PVC-level configuration and statistics on top of the standard Frame Relay MIB. It exposes per-DLCI encapsulation configuration (enabled/negotiated encapsulation state) and reset/discard counters for each Frame Relay circuit, keyed by interface index and DLCI. Its monitoring purpose is centered on circuit-level software/protocol status: tracking whether Frame Relay encapsulation negotiation succeeded, and counting LMI-style reset requests/acknowledgements and discarded frames to detect an unstable or misconfigured PVC. It extends the standard Frame Relay DTE/DCE MIB conventions (akin to RFC 1315/2115) with Securicor-specific encapsulation extensions. It is deployed on Securicor WAN routers terminating Frame Relay circuits in enterprise wide-area network links. Engineers can download the SCA-FREXT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SCA-FREXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Securicor (SCA) WAN routers with Frame Relay interfaces

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll frCirExtEncTable/frCirExtEncEntry keyed by frCirExtEncIfIndex and frCirExtEncDlci to check frCirExtEncEnabled and frCirExtEncNegotiated encapsulation state for a given PVC. A rising count of frCirExtEncResetRequestsRx/Tx or frCirExtEncRxDiscarded on a specific DLCI would indicate the Frame Relay circuit is flapping or has a mismatched encapsulation configuration between the two ends.

What Can Be Monitored

  • Frame Relay PVC encapsulation state
  • reset request/acknowledgement counts
  • discarded frame counts
  • per-DLCI circuit configuration
