Description: Manages Lucent SIP-over-DS1 interface configuration and SMDS subscriber access statistics.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is SIP-DS1-MIB?
SIP-DS1-MIB is a Lucent module for managing SIP-over-DS1 interfaces, combining Session Initiation Protocol signaling with legacy DS1 (T1) transport and SMDS (Switched Multi-megabit Data Service) subscriber access. It belongs to the voice/telecom-transport interface category and exposes interface configuration alongside SMDS subscriber access statistics. Its monitoring relevance covers both hardware and service status: DS1 interface configuration/state reflects the physical transport link's health, while SMDS subscriber statistics indicate service-level usage and potential access faults for subscribers riding that DS1 circuit. It depends on standard DS1/T1 interface conventions (RFC 3895-family) and general IETF interface MIB concepts for its transport layer. It is deployed on Lucent carrier-grade equipment providing SIP-based voice services over legacy DS1 transport circuits.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SIP-DS1-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Lucent carrier equipment with SIP-over-DS1/T1 interfaces
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll the DS1 interface configuration and status objects to confirm a T1 circuit carrying SIP signaling is up and correctly framed, since a DS1 alarm would directly explain SIP call setup failures riding over it. SMDS subscriber access statistics would be checked to verify a given subscriber's data usage or access-line health matches expected service levels. A DS1 interface showing loss-of-signal alongside a spike in dropped SIP transactions would point to a physical transport fault rather than a SIP-application-layer problem, and administrators troubleshooting such issues often start with a SIP-DS1-MIB download to load the relevant objects into their MIB browser.
What Can Be Monitored
- DS1 interface configuration
- DS1 interface operational status
- SMDS subscriber access statistics
- interface alarm/fault state
