What Is RIVERSTONE-TRACEROUTE-EXTENSIONS-MIB?

RIVERSTONE-TRACEROUTE-EXTENSIONS-MIB extends the IETF traceRoute MIB (RFC 2925) with Riverstone-specific control objects for specialized path-discovery mechanisms, including Ethernet OAM traceroute and MPLS LSP traceroute over LDP and RSVP signaling. It exposes configuration tables for initiating and controlling these extended traceroute operations, such as target address, VLAN, priority, and tunnel identifiers, rather than passive counters. This is a network-diagnostic/software-feature MIB used to actively test connectivity and path health across Ethernet OAM domains and MPLS tunnels, helping confirm whether a given LSP or VLAN path is reachable and healthy. It explicitly depends on and extends RFC 2925's traceRouteMIB. It is used in service-provider environments running MPLS/Ethernet OAM on Riverstone equipment, where operators trigger these extended traceroutes to troubleshoot tunnel or VLAN path failures. Monitoring Examples

To test an Ethernet OAM path, an admin populates rsTraceRouteEtherOamCtlTable (rsTraceRouteEtherOamCtlEntry) with rsTraceRouteEtherOamCtlTargetAddress, rsTraceRouteEtherOamCtlVlanId, and rsTraceRouteEtherOamCtlPriority, then reads back hop results. For MPLS diagnostics, rsTraceRouteLspLdpCtlTable/rsTraceRouteLspRsvpCtlTable entries configured with rsTraceRouteLspRsvpCtlTgtTunnelId let an operator trace a specific RSVP tunnel; a trace that fails to reach the target tunnel ID reveals a broken or misrouted LSP. These control-table driven traces reveal path failures not visible from simple interface counters.
