Description: Manages interface output queue configuration, scheduling policies, and congestion statistics on Riverstone routers.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is RIVERSTONE-QUEUE-MIB?
RIVERSTONE-QUEUE-MIB is a Riverstone Networks proprietary MIB for their routing/switching platforms, covering per-port output queue configuration, scheduling/discard policies, and queue traffic statistics used for QoS management. It exposes both configuration objects (queue name, description, discard policy, maximum capacity) and statistics objects (byte counts, last capacity-change time, validity flags) for each queue on each port. Its monitoring value is on performance/software status: detecting when a queue is dropping traffic due to its discard policy being invoked, when queue byte counters show congestion building on a particular class of traffic, or when a queue's capacity was recently changed, which could explain a shift in traffic behavior. It is a self-contained Riverstone vendor MIB with no explicit external dependency evident from the module text, though it follows general QoS/queuing conventions common to router MIBs. It is deployed on Riverstone Networks routers/switches where administrators need visibility into per-port QoS queue behavior and congestion. Engineers can download the RIVERSTONE-QUEUE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RIVERSTONE-QUEUE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Riverstone Networks routers/switches
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll rsQueuePropertiesTable/rsQueuePropertiesEntry for rsQueueDiscardPolicy and rsQueueMaxCapacity to confirm a queue's configured drop behavior and capacity limit, then cross-reference rsQueueStatsTable/rsQueueStatsEntry for rsQueueBytes to see how much traffic is currently queued. A queue whose rsQueueBytes approaches rsQueueMaxCapacity, combined with rsQueueStatsValid indicating current data, signals imminent tail-drop congestion for that traffic class, while rsQueueStatsLastCapChange reveals if a recent capacity tweak coincides with the congestion onset.
What Can Be Monitored
- queue discard policy
- queue maximum capacity
- queued byte count
- last capacity change time
- queue statistics validity
