What is ipRouteEntry?

This is the conceptual row (entry) definition for the classic MIB-1 IP Routing Table (ipRoutingTable), representing one row of a route destination, next hop, and metric; the source MIB provides no DESCRIPTION text for this row object beyond its SYNTAX and table linkage. Admins and management tools use this table to view the device's current IP routing table, whether populated by static routes or a dynamic routing protocol. For illustration, walking this table would return a row for the default route, showing its next-hop gateway and associated metric.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.2.1.4.21.1
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> RFC1156-MIB::ipRouteEntry

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.2.1.4.21.1.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> RFC1156-MIB::ipRouteEntry.1

Set instance 1 (SNMPv2c):

snmpset -v2c -c private <target> 1.3.6.1.2.1.4.21.1.1 s <value>

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, early TCP/IP hosts, routers, and gateways (legacy MIB-I object set) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Create custom SNMP monitor using the RFC1156-MIB::ipRouteEntry OID value, configure state conditions and alerts, and monitor any vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, early TCP/IP hosts, routers, and gateways (legacy MIB-I object set) from a single console.
