Category: Performance Monitoring, QoS and Traffic Management

Description: Manages Nortel Networks QoS SLA policy configuration, service level objectives, and SLA compliance monitoring.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is QOSSLA-MIB?

QOSSLA-MIB is a Nortel Networks module for defining and monitoring Quality-of-Service Service Level Agreement (SLA) policies, including threshold definitions and compliance notifications. It centers on an SLA index and associated threshold-type, effect-type, and dual threshold-value objects that let an administrator define what metric is being watched (e.g., delay, jitter, loss) and at what values an SLA violation or corrective effect should trigger. Its monitoring role is squarely around service-level compliance: the module raises SLA notifications/traps when a monitored QoS metric crosses a configured threshold, which is a performance and service-health signal rather than a hardware fault. It depends on the broader Nortel QoS framework MIBs that supply the actual traffic metrics being measured against these SLA thresholds. It is deployed in Nortel-based carrier or enterprise networks where SLA compliance for prioritized traffic classes must be tracked and alerted on automatically. Engineers can download the QOSSLA-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in QOSSLA-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nortel Networks router/switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would configure nnqosSlaIndex with an nnqosSlaThresholdType and two threshold values (nnqosSlaThresholdValue1, nnqosSlaThresholdValue2) to define, for example, acceptable and critical latency bounds for a traffic class. When the actual measured metric crosses these bounds, the device raises an SLA notification from the nnqosSLATraps group with an nnqosSlaEffectType indicating the configured response, alerting the operator that a service-level agreement is at risk of being violated.

What Can Be Monitored

  • SLA threshold values
  • SLA threshold type (e.g., delay/loss)
  • SLA violation notifications
  • configured SLA effect/response
