What Is NT-ENTERPRISE-DATA-MIB?
NT-ENTERPRISE-DATA-MIB is a Nortel Tasman/Newbury enterprise root MIB that defines the base OID structure under which subordinate data-networking chassis MIB modules are organized, rather than instrumenting objects itself. It provides the organizational tree for management, interface, and module-level MIBs belonging to the Tasman and Newbury enterprise data chassis product lines. Because it is purely a structural/root MIB, it has no runtime objects for reporting uptime, temperature, CPU load, or other hardware/software status directly—that instrumentation lives in the subordinate MIBs registered under this tree (e.g., ntEnterpriseDataTasmanInterfaces, ntEnterpriseDataTasmanModules). Every dependent Nortel Tasman/Newbury product MIB registers its objects beneath this root, making it a structural dependency for the entire product family. It is deployed as the OID backbone wherever Nortel/Tasman/Newbury enterprise data chassis equipment is SNMP-managed. Administrators who download NT-ENTERPRISE-DATA-MIB typically do so only to satisfy compiler dependencies for the subordinate Tasman/Newbury MIBs that actually expose runtime data.

This module defines only organizational OID nodes—ntEnterpriseDataMibs, ntEnterpriseDataTasmanMibs, ntEnterpriseDataTasmanMgmt, ntEnterpriseDataTasmanInterfaces, ntEnterpriseDataTasmanModules, and ntEnterpriseDataNewburyMibs—with no leaf objects to poll for status. An admin would not query this MIB directly for monitoring data; instead they would look under ntEnterpriseDataTasmanInterfaces or ntEnterpriseDataTasmanModules in the dependent MIBs for actual interface and module health data.
