Category: QoS and Traffic Management
Description: Defines base QoS OID structure and textual conventions for quality of service policy management objects.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is QOS?
QOS is a base, minimally-documented MIB module that defines the top-level OID structure and textual conventions used for quality-of-service policy management objects, serving as a naming/registration root rather than a full functional MIB. It belongs to the general QoS/traffic-management area and is typically referenced by other, more complete QoS MIBs that hang their priority and policy tables off this base arc. The only documented semantic is a QoS priority value convention where a higher number means higher priority, which would be used by dependent MIBs to interpret their priority-related objects consistently. Given the sparse description and empty sample object list, this module does not itself appear to expose hardware/software runtime status objects -- its role is structural/definitional, supporting whatever concrete QoS policy or queue MIB is layered on top of it. It is typically found alongside vendor-specific QoS policy-management MIBs on routers and switches implementing traffic prioritization. Engineers implementing or auditing this functionality typically reference the QOS RFC/standard documentation for the authoritative specification.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in QOS. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- vendor-neutral base MIB structure, not tied to a specific manufacturer
- router/switch implementing QoS policy management
Monitoring Examples
No sample_objects were provided for this module, and the module description only documents a priority-numbering convention (higher number = higher priority) rather than any runtime table or scalar. Because it appears to function as a base OID/textual-convention definition rather than a data-bearing MIB, a concrete monitoring scenario cannot be honestly constructed; any actual QoS priority values would be read from the vendor-specific MIB that imports and extends this base module.
