Category: QoS and Traffic Management

Description: Manages Nortel Networks QoS traffic classification policies, DSCP marking rules, and traffic shaping configuration.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is QOSTRAFFIC-MIB?

QOSTRAFFIC-MIB is a Nortel Networks enterprise MIB, part of the Meridian/Succession Multimedia (SMP) Call Server product family, that reports zone-based QoS traffic statistics for VoIP/telephony traffic managed by the Call Server; its actual content is a per-zone traffic report table rather than DSCP marking/shaping configuration. It captures call volume, blocked calls, latency violations, packet loss, and jitter statistics for each configured network zone. This is a performance/quality monitoring MIB focused on voice call quality - ztCallsBlockedIn and ztInThrViol reveal capacity or threshold problems, while ztUnacpLatencyIn, ztUnacpPacketLossIn, and ztUnacpJitterIn directly measure whether voice quality has degraded below acceptable levels in a given zone, the telephony equivalent of a performance-health check. It's part of the Nortel Meridian/SMP Call Server MIB family and depends on that platform's zone-based network configuration model. It's deployed in enterprise Nortel Meridian/Succession telephony deployments to monitor voice quality across WAN-connected sites/zones. Engineers can download the QOSTRAFFIC-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in QOSTRAFFIC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nortel Meridian/Succession Multimedia (SMP) Call Server telephony systems

Monitoring Examples

An admin polls ztZoneTable/ztZoneEntry to compare ztCallsMadeIn against ztCallsBlockedIn for a given zone, spotting call admission control blocking calls due to insufficient bandwidth. ztUnacpLatencyIn, ztUnacpPacketLossIn, and ztUnacpJitterIn are checked together to confirm whether a zone is experiencing unacceptable voice quality, and a spike in ztInThrViol (threshold violations) over ztIntervalIn flags a zone needing bandwidth or QoS remediation. ztPeakIn and ztAvgIn give call-volume trend context for capacity planning.

What Can Be Monitored

  • calls made/blocked per zone
  • peak and average call volume
  • threshold violations
  • unacceptable latency
  • packet loss
  • jitter per zone
