Category: Server Hardware Monitoring

Description: Defines NEC ESMPRO ServerAgents common base OID structure and shared textual conventions for PSA server monitoring MIBs.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PSA-COM-MIB?

PSA-COM-MIB is the common base module for NEC's ESMPRO ServerAgent family of MIBs, defining the shared enterprise OID structure and textual conventions (PSA branch) that the rest of the ESMPRO server-monitoring MIB suite builds upon. Despite being a common foundation module, it also directly defines physical CPU inventory and status objects — a physicalCpuTable listing each installed processor by slot/board number and physical ID, along with its type, stepping, and L3 cache size. This gives it clear hardware status monitoring value: phCpuStatus, phCpuPredictedStatus, and phCpuPresentStatus let an administrator see whether each CPU in a server is currently healthy, predicted to fail, or already faulted, which is critical for catching a failing processor before it causes a system outage. As the base module for the ESMPRO ServerAgent suite, essentially every other PSA-*-MIB (such as trap modules) depends on the OID tree and conventions this module establishes. It is deployed on NEC Express5800-series and other NEC servers running ESMPRO ServerAgent management software in enterprise data centers. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the PSA-COM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PSA-COM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Fujitsu PRIMEQUEST server partition (ESMPRO ServerAgent common base, physical CPU inventory)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll physicalCpuTable and walk each physicalCpuEntry to check phCpuStatus and phCpuPresentStatus for every phCpuNumber, watching for a status other than normal that would indicate a degraded or failed processor. phCpuPredictedStatus is particularly valuable since it can flag a CPU trending toward failure (e.g., via correlated ECC or thermal events) before an actual fault occurs, letting staff schedule a replacement during planned maintenance. phCpuCacheL3Size and phCpuType also let an inventory audit confirm exactly which processor model is installed in each socket.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-CPU operational status
  • predicted CPU failure status
  • CPU type and stepping
  • CPU cache size
  • CPU slot/board inventory
