Category: Server Hardware Monitoring

Description: Provides NEC ESMPRO ServerAgents common trap notifications for server hardware fault and status change events.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PSA-ComTrap-MIB?

This is a NEC ESMPRO ServerAgent MIB that defines the common trap-notification structure used across NEC's server hardware-monitoring agent, providing the shared variable bindings carried by hardware and driver fault traps. Rather than exposing polled tables, its data category is fault/event notification: partition identity, event severity level, event ID, hardware unit name, and a suspect-component indicator sent at the moment a hardware condition changes. It is used to monitor the hardware/software status of a NEC server by delivering asynchronous alerts — a management module (MMB) or a device driver raises a trap identifying the affected part number, serial number, model, and stepping when a fault, failure, or recovery is detected, letting an operator react to hardware problems without polling. As the common base for NEC's family of ESMPRO trap MIBs, other PSA-*Trap-MIB modules (for specific drivers/NICs/controllers) reuse this same varbind structure, so it acts as a shared dependency across that trap MIB family. It is deployed on NEC Express5800/SIGMABLADE-class partitioned servers running NEC ESMPRO ServerAgent, in data-center environments where NEC hardware-health alerts are forwarded to an SNMP trap receiver/NMS, typically after a PSA-ComTrap-MIB download is loaded so the receiver can decode the shared trap varbinds.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PSA-ComTrap-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Fujitsu PRIMEQUEST server partition (ESMPRO ServerAgent shared trap structure)

Monitoring Examples

This module defines trap notifications rather than polled tables, so there is no continuous counter to walk; when NEC ESMPRO ServerAgent detects a hardware condition it emits a trap carrying trapPartitionName, trapUnitName, trapEventLevel, and trapEventId, and an NMS operator would inspect trapSuspect together with trapModelNo/trapSerialNo/trapPartNo to identify exactly which physical component triggered the alert and how severe it is.

What Can Be Monitored

  • hardware fault event level/severity
  • affected unit/partition name
  • suspect component
  • part/model/serial number of affected hardware
  • event ID/type
