Category: Server Hardware Monitoring

Description: Provides NEC ESMPRO ServerAgents trap notifications for LAN communication driver common fault events on Linux servers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PSA-LinLanComTrap-MIB?

PSA-LinLanComTrap-MIB is part of NEC's ESMPRO ServerAgent suite, providing SNMP trap notifications specifically for LAN communication driver common fault events on Linux-based servers. It is a fault/notification-oriented MIB rather than a table-based data MIB, exposing trap objects that carry contextual details about a hardware or partition-level event such as partition name/ID, event level and ID, unit name, model and serial number, and stepping information. Its clear purpose is monitoring hardware and software status of the server -- specifically surfacing LAN communication driver faults, tied to the physical server's identity (serial number, model number, partition), so administrators are alerted to network interface driver failures at the OS/driver level. It is designed to be used alongside other ESMPRO ServerAgent MIBs (the broader NEC ESMPRO family) as part of a unified server-health notification scheme. It is deployed on NEC Express5800/PC servers running Linux with ESMPRO ServerAgent installed for out-of-band-style hardware/software fault alerting, and administrators can download the PSA-LinLanComTrap-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser or NMS for trap decoding.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PSA-LinLanComTrap-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Fujitsu PRIMEQUEST server partition, Linux (common LAN driver fault traps)

Monitoring Examples

An NMS receiving a trap from this MIB would extract trapEventLevel and trapEventId to determine fault severity and type, then use trapUnitName, trapModelNo, and trapSerialNo to identify exactly which physical server and partition (trapPartitionName/trapPartitionId) raised the LAN communication driver fault. trapSuspect would indicate the specific suspected faulty component or driver stated by the agent. Because this MIB is trap/notification-oriented rather than table-based, there is no polling table to walk -- monitoring here is event-driven via trap reception.

What Can Be Monitored

  • LAN driver fault event level
  • fault event ID
  • affected partition name/ID
  • server model/serial number
  • suspected faulty component
