Category: Vendor SMI and Registration

Description: Manages Prominet Corporation Gigabit Ethernet switch configuration, port status, and forwarding table operations.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PROMINET-MIB?

PROMINET-MIB is a vendor-specific enterprise MIB from Prominet Corporation, a Gigabit Ethernet switch vendor (later acquired by Lucent), covering configuration, port status, and Layer 2 forwarding table operations for its switch product line. Based on the objects available in this batch it exposes module-level change tracking, indicating a general focus on switch and forwarding-table state rather than granular per-port counters. It is used to monitor the operational status of switch modules by detecting when configuration or forwarding-table data has changed, which supports change auditing and troubleshooting unexpected topology shifts. No specific dependency on other MIBs is evident from the fragment available here. It is typically deployed on Prominet Gigabit Ethernet switches in enterprise/campus core network deployments, largely as a legacy product line today, with the PROMINET-MIB MIB serving as the primary reference for its object identifiers.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PROMINET-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Prominet Corporation Gigabit Ethernet switches

Monitoring Examples

promModuleUpdateTime records the timestamp of the last change to a switch module's configuration or forwarding state, while promModuleUpdateList enumerates what changed; an admin could poll promModuleUpdateTime to detect an unexpected or unauthorized configuration change on a module and then inspect promModuleUpdateList to see exactly which forwarding entries or settings were modified.

What Can Be Monitored

  • module configuration update timestamp
  • list of recently changed module parameters
