What Is PDN-CP-IWF-MIB?

PDN-CP-IWF-MIB is a Paradyne enterprise MIB for managing multiple Customer Premises Interworking Functions (CP-IWF) supporting Loop Emulation Service (LES) on Paradyne DSLAM products, filling a gap in the ATM Forum's af-vmoa-0145.000 recommendation which could not manage multiple CP-IWFs per device. It exposes a table of CP-IWF instances, each tied to an ifIndex, region, and configuration attributes including number of POTS lines assigned, gateway protocol, ATM Broadband Loop Emulation Service (BLES) capability, and SSCS predefined profile. Its monitoring role centers on service configuration/status for voice-over-DSL loop emulation -- confirming each CP-IWF instance is active, has the expected number of POTS lines provisioned, and is using the intended gateway protocol and ATM adaptation profile, critical to keeping emulated voice circuits working correctly. It is explicitly meant to be used alongside the standard ifTable from RFC 2863 (IF-MIB), tying each CP-IWF instance to a real interface index, and builds on ATM Forum LES/CP-IWF concepts. It is deployed on Paradyne DSLAM products delivering multiple emulated voice/POTS lines over DSL loops. Engineers can download the PDN-CP-IWF-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PDN-CP-IWF-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

An operator walks pdnCpIwfTable/Entry (indexed by pdnCpIwfIndex) to check pdnCpIwfIfIndex ties correctly to the expected physical interface and that pdnCpIwfRowStatus shows the instance active. pdnCpIwfNumPotsAssigned confirms the number of provisioned POTS lines matches subscriber orders, and pdnCpIwfGatewayProtocol/pdnCpIwfAtmBLESCapability confirm the correct voice gateway signaling and ATM loop-emulation capability are configured. pdnCpIwfSscsPredefinedProfile lets an admin verify the ATM adaptation-layer profile applied to a given CP-IWF instance.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using pdnCpIwfAal2CpsRxPkts OID:

Select a Paradyne DSLAM with Loop Emulation Service (LES) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type pdnCpIwfAal2CpsRxPkts into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports the number of CPS Received. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
