Category: CATV and HFC

Description: Manages the Cisco/Scientific Atlanta GX2 CEB (Control and Element Bus) module configuration and status in HFC networks.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is OMNI-gx2CEB-MIB?

OMNI-gx2CEB-MIB is a Blonder Tongue (BBN/GX2 HFC headend heritage) proprietary MIB reporting gx2CEB (a cable-headend combiner/EDFA-related module) analog telemetry against nominal ranges. Its analog table, keyed by index, records per-parameter (module temperature, fan current, and others) label, unit of measure, major/minor high/low threshold, current value, state flag, min/max recorded value, and alarm state, while companion status and factory tables cover discrete status and factory-set data. As a hardware-performance MIB it lets an administrator watch a gx2CEB module's temperature and fan current against alarm thresholds in an HFC headend. It is deployed on Blonder Tongue (GX2) HFC headend equipment. Engineers can download the OMNI-gx2CEB-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in OMNI-gx2CEB-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • General Instrument OmniStar GX2 HFC headend/optical node (gx2CEB combiner/EDFA module)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator monitors cebcurrentValueModTemp against cebmajorHighModTemp to catch an overheating gx2CEB module in an HFC headend before it triggers a critical alarm.

What Can Be Monitored

  • gx2CEB module temperature/fan-current vs. alarm thresholds
