What Is Nortel-Magellan-Passport-PorsTrunksMIB?

Nortel-Magellan-Passport-PorsTrunksMIB defines SNMP management objects for Packet-over-Ring Service (PORS) trunk interfaces on Nortel Magellan Passport switches, a trunking technology used to carry packet traffic over ring-based transport. It exposes row status and provisioning tables for each trunk (trkPa) and its logical channels (trkLCh), including capacity settings such as the maximum number of logical channels and maximum reserved outbound bandwidth, plus a trunk security configuration object. This lets an operator monitor whether a PORS trunk component is provisioned and active, and track how much of its logical-channel and bandwidth capacity is allocated -- essentially performance and capacity monitoring of the trunk hardware/software resource, with the security object flagging whether trunk-level access controls are enabled. It uses the standard Passport RowStatus/StorageType and component-index conventions shared across the MIB family. It applies to Nortel Magellan Passport WAN switches carrying packet traffic over ring transport in carrier backbone networks. Engineers can download the Nortel-Magellan-Passport-PorsTrunksMIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Nortel-Magellan-Passport-PorsTrunksMIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nortel Magellan Passport WAN switch

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls trkPaRowStatusTable and trkPaProvTable (via trkPaIndex) to confirm a PORS trunk is active, then checks trkPaMaxLc and trkPaMaxReservedBwOut to see the configured ceiling on logical channels and reserved outbound bandwidth for that trunk. Comparing actual channel/bandwidth allocation against these maximums indicates whether the trunk is nearing capacity. trkPaTrunkSecurity shows whether trunk-level security has been enabled for that link.

What Can Be Monitored

  • trunk row/operational status
  • maximum logical channels
  • maximum reserved outbound bandwidth
  • trunk security setting
