Category: WAN

Description: Manages Nortel Magellan Passport HDLC transparent data service configuration and link state.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Nortel-Magellan-Passport-HdlcTransparentMIB?

This MIB manages the HDLC transparent data service on Nortel Magellan Passport multiservice switches, a raw pass-through circuit used for leased-line style point-to-point HDLC data. It exposes htdsIfEntryTable, mapping a transparent HDLC circuit to its interface, htdsCidDataTable for customer identifier assignments, and framer status objects (htdsFramer) for the underlying physical link. Monitoring centers on interface and framer/physical-layer status, since loss of frame synchronization directly indicates the leased-line circuit has dropped. It depends on standard interface-indexing conventions along with the shared Passport component/RowStatus framework. It is deployed on Passport WAN interfaces provisioned for transparent HDLC leased-line circuit emulation services. Engineers can download the Nortel-Magellan-Passport-HdlcTransparentMIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Nortel-Magellan-Passport-HdlcTransparentMIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nortel Magellan Passport multiservice switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator polls htdsIfEntryTable/htdsIfEntryEntry to correlate an HDLC transparent circuit to its interface, and htdsCidDataTable/htdsCidDataEntry to verify the htdsCustomerIdentifier assignment. The htdsFramer branch reports underlying physical-layer framer alignment/error status. Loss of frame sync reported by htdsFramer, or an htdsRowStatus other than active, indicates the transparent HDLC circuit has dropped, interrupting the leased-line data service.

What Can Be Monitored

  • HDLC circuit interface state
  • customer identifier mapping
  • framer/physical layer status
  • component row status
