What Is Nortel-Magellan-Passport-BgpMIB?

Nortel-Magellan-Passport-BgpMIB is a Nortel private MIB for the Magellan Passport family of WAN switches, modeling the BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) component within Passport's virtual-router (Vr/IP) component architecture. Following the Passport component-provisioning pattern, vrIpBgpRowStatusTable (indexed by vrIndex, vrIpIndex, vrIpBgpIndex) controls creation/deletion of a Bgp instance under a given virtual router's IP component, while vrIpBgpProvTable holds its provisionable attributes: vrIpBgpBgpIdentifier (the router's BGP ID drawn from IP address space), vrIpBgpLocalAs, default route-selection tie-breakers (vrIpBgpDefaultLocalPreference, vrIpBgpDefaultMultiExitDisc), route-flap protection (vrIpBgpRouteThrottleLimit, vrIpBgpRouteThrottleInter), and route reflector configuration (vrIpBgpRouteReflector, vrIpBgpRouteReflectorCluster). This gives operators visibility into per-virtual-router BGP peer session policy and route-selection behavior rather than raw route counts. It depends on Nortel-Magellan-Passport-IpMIB and Nortel-Magellan-Passport-VirtualRouterMIB for its vrIndex/vrIpIndex indexing and on Nortel's shared textual-conventions MIBs, and is deployed on Nortel Magellan Passport WAN switches running BGP for multi-VPN or multi-tenant routing, and administrators can download the Nortel-Magellan-Passport-BgpMIB file to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Nortel-Magellan-Passport-BgpMIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nortel Magellan Passport WAN switches

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls vrIpBgpRowStatus in vrIpBgpRowStatusTable to confirm a BGP component is active for a given virtual router, then checks vrIpBgpRouteThrottleLimit against observed route churn; if vrIpBgpRouteThrottleInter is frequently triggered along with an unexpected vrIpBgpBgpIdentifier mismatch, it would indicate route flapping or a misconfigured BGP identifier disrupting peering on that virtual router.

What Can Be Monitored

  • BGP component row status (active/deleted)
  • BGP identifier and local AS configuration
  • default local preference and multi-exit-discriminator settings
  • route throttle limit/interval (flap protection)
  • route reflector and cluster configuration
