Description: Configures QoS traffic shaping, bandwidth guarantees, and priority queuing on Juniper NetScreen ScreenOS devices.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is NETSCREEN-QOS-MIB?
NETSCREEN-QOS-MIB is a Juniper NetScreen (ScreenOS) MIB module that configures and monitors Quality of Service traffic shaping, bandwidth guarantees, and priority queuing on NetScreen firewall/security appliances. It exposes QoS policy table entries per virtual system, including guaranteed and maximum bandwidth values, traffic priority, and DiffServ marking enable state, alongside global user/system shaping mode settings. Its monitoring role is primarily configuration-status oriented — confirming whether QoS policies are enabled and correctly bounding bandwidth per traffic class — though persistent bandwidth-guarantee shortfalls could indirectly signal device overload. It depends on the NETSCREEN-SMI enterprise structure for its OID root and on NetScreen's virtual-system (vsys) model for scoping policies. It is deployed on Juniper NetScreen firewall appliances in enterprise perimeter security environments where bandwidth must be guaranteed to critical traffic, and administrators can use a NETSCREEN-QOS-MIB MIB Browser view to inspect these policy objects directly.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NETSCREEN-QOS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Juniper NetScreen ScreenOS firewall/security appliance
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll nsQosPlyTable/nsQosPlyEntry indexed by nsQosPlyId and nsQosPlyVsys to see each policy's nsQosPlyGanBW (guaranteed bandwidth) and nsQosPlyMaxBW (maximum bandwidth) alongside nsQosPlyTraffPriority. Checking nsQosPlyQosEnable and nsQosPlyDSEnable confirms whether QoS enforcement and DiffServ marking are actually turned on for that policy. If nsQosSysShapingMode shows shaping disabled system-wide despite individual policies being configured, that would explain why bandwidth guarantees aren't being enforced in practice.
What Can Be Monitored
- per-policy guaranteed and maximum bandwidth
- traffic priority setting
- QoS enable state per policy
- DiffServ marking enable state
- system/user shaping mode
