Category: QoS, Transition Networks Media Converters

Description: Manages Transition Networks QoS policy extension attributes and extended queue parameters.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TN-QOS-EXT-MIB?

TN-QOS-EXT-MIB is a Transition Networks proprietary SNMP MIB extending base QoS capability with additional per-port and per-queue policing controls not covered by standard QoS MIBs. It exposes a port-level policer table (rate, unit, flow-control behavior, enable status) and a per-queue policer table keyed by queue ID, letting an operator cap traffic at both the physical port and individual priority-queue level. It's mainly a configuration MIB, but the policer status objects support monitoring the software status of traffic shaping: confirming a policer is actually enabled and active where intended, essential for diagnosing unexpected packet drops or throughput caps. No dependency on other standard MIBs is evident, though it complements standard bridge/QoS MIBs already present on the switch for classification. It is deployed on Transition Networks managed switches in networks needing granular traffic-rate enforcement per port or per class of service, making the TN-QOS-EXT-MIB reference useful for confirming policer configuration at both levels.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TN-QOS-EXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Transition Networks managed switch

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls tnQosExtPortPolicerTable/tnQosExtPortPolicerEntry to check tnQosExtPortPolicerStatus and tnQosExtPortPolicerRate/Unit, confirming a port is capped at the intended bandwidth and that tnQosExtPortPolicerFlowControl behavior matches policy (drop vs. pause). tnQosExtPortQueuePolicerTable/tnQosExtPortQueuePolicerEntry is checked per tnQosExtPortQueuePolicerQid to verify individual queue-level rate limits, useful when diagnosing why a specific traffic class is experiencing more drops than the overall port policer alone would explain.

What Can Be Monitored

  • port policer enable status and rate
  • per-queue policer enable status and rate
  • flow-control behavior under policing
