Category: Switch Management

Description: Defines management extensions and enterprise-specific objects for Netgear ME series managed Ethernet switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is NETGEAR-ME-MIB?

NETGEAR-ME-MIB defines Netgear's enterprise objects for managed devices; despite the module's name, the objects provided are focused on wireless access point management, covering AP identity, firmware, and remote-management/trap functions. It exposes AP inventory data (MAC address, firmware version, date/time, uptime), remote control actions (reset, factory reset, clear log, save configuration), password/admin settings, and SNMP trap-receiver configuration for the AP. Its monitoring role covers both hardware and software status: wirelessAPUpTime tracks AP availability, wirelessAPFWVer reports firmware version for patch-compliance checks, and wirelessAPDateTime confirms the AP's clock is correctly synchronized, all useful for confirming an access point is healthy and properly configured. As a Netgear proprietary module, it doesn't appear to formally import external standard MIBs, though it coexists with Netgear's broader enterprise MIB tree. It is deployed on Netgear wireless access points (and potentially ME-series managed devices with wireless management features) in small-to-medium business network deployments. Engineers can download the NETGEAR-ME-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NETGEAR-ME-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Netgear wireless access point
  • Netgear ME-series managed device

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll wirelessAPUpTime and wirelessAPFWVer to confirm an access point is running and on the expected firmware version, flagging any device that needs a firmware upgrade. wirelessAPResetNow or wirelessAPResetToFactoryDefault could be invoked remotely to recover an unresponsive AP, while snmpTrapRcvIpAddress/snmpAPTrapRcvIpAddress configuration confirms where the AP is sending its SNMP traps, ensuring alerts reach the correct management station.

What Can Be Monitored

  • AP uptime
  • AP firmware version
  • AP date/time sync
  • trap receiver configuration
  • admin password/reset controls
