Category: Switch Management

Description: Establishes the top-level enterprise OID hierarchy and module registration point for Netgear network equipment.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Netgear-MIB?

Netgear-MIB is Netgear's top-level enterprise MIB module, establishing the OID registration root and object branches (such as managedSwitch, router, carrier, wireless, and rps) under which Netgear's various product-line MIBs register their instrumentation. It does not itself define runtime data objects but organizes the namespace so that switch, router, wireless AP, and redundant power supply (rps) MIBs can be identified and loaded consistently. As a structural module its role in hardware/software monitoring is indirect: it is a prerequisite that lets management tools correctly resolve OIDs reported by the actual product MIBs covering interface status, environmental sensors, and configuration for each Netgear device category. Downstream Netgear product MIBs (managed switches, routers, wireless controllers, RPS units) all depend on this root module for their OID placement. It is used across Netgear's SMB/enterprise networking product range wherever SNMP-based management is deployed. This is Netgear's own official enterprise MIB, heavily searched by administrators looking to download it directly to resolve Netgear product sysObjectID values via SNMP.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Netgear-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Netgear managed switch
  • Netgear router
  • Netgear wireless/RPS equipment
  • Netgear managed switches, routers, and wireless/RPS equipment

Monitoring Examples

The sample objects here (netgear, managedSwitch, --router, carrier, wireless, rps) are OID branch identifiers rather than runtime data points, so there is no direct polling scenario for this module by itself. An NMS would load this MIB to correctly interpret which Netgear product category (e.g. managedSwitch versus rps) an incoming OID belongs to before polling the corresponding product-specific MIB for actual status data.
