Category: Switch Management

Description: Monitors D-Link switch CPU process list, utilization, and memory usage.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is MY-PROCESS-MIB?

MY-PROCESS-MIB, whose module description simply states "This module defines my system mibs," is a D-Link proprietary MIB for monitoring CPU utilization and process load on D-Link managed switches. It exposes system-wide CPU utilization at multiple intervals (myCPUUtilization5Sec, 1Min, 5Min) plus configurable warning/critical thresholds, and a per-node/per-unit CPU table (myNodeCPUTotalTable) for stacked or multi-unit switch systems. This is a core software/hardware health MIB intended for monitoring CPU load trends and overload conditions — administrators watch the short/medium/long interval utilization figures and compare them against the warning and critical thresholds to catch sustained high CPU that could impair switching performance. No specific external MIB dependency is indicated, though it complements standard interface/entity MIB data for the same device. It is deployed on D-Link managed switches, including stackable models where per-unit CPU data matters, and administrators can get the MY-PROCESS-MIB download from D-Link's support site to load into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MY-PROCESS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • D-Link managed switch
  • D-Link stackable switch

Monitoring Examples

Polling myCPUUtilization5Min alongside myCPUUtilizationWarning and myCPUUtilizationCritical reveals whether sustained CPU load has crossed an alerting threshold; in a stacked deployment, myNodeCPUTotalTable (indexed by myNodeCPUTotalIndex/myNodeCPUTotalName) lets an admin identify which specific stack unit's myNodeCPUTotal5min is spiking, pinpointing a single overloaded switch in the stack rather than a stack-wide issue.

What Can Be Monitored

  • CPU utilization (5-sec/1-min/5-min)
  • CPU warning/critical thresholds
  • per-unit/per-node CPU utilization
  • stack unit identification

RFC description

Proprietary MIB for monitoring and managing system processes and process statistics on network devices. Provides SNMP objects for tracking process CPU utilization, memory usage, and process status information similar to CISCO-PROCESS-MIB or HOST-RESOURCES-MIB standards.

Start monitoring D-Link managed/stackable switch (CPU utilization) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
