Description: Manages Netgear Green Ethernet energy-saving features including EEE and port power-down on idle links.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is NETGEAR-GREENETHERNET-PRIVATE-MIB?
This is a Netgear private MIB that manages and monitors the IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) and Low Power Idle (LPI) "Green Ethernet" feature on Netgear managed switches. It exposes configuration objects for EEE mode and wake/idle timers, plus historical performance data tracking how much time each interface spent in low-power idle state and cumulative energy savings. Rather than hardware faults, its monitoring focus is software/feature status and power-related performance: agentGreenCumEnergySaving reports estimated energy saved, and the agentGreenEeeLpiHistory table tracks per-interface LPI percentage over time, letting an admin verify the power-saving feature is actually engaging on idle links. It is a vendor-private extension layered on top of the standard IF-MIB interface table, since the LPI history is indexed by interface. It is deployed on Netgear managed switches in offices or wiring closets where administrators want to verify and report on energy efficiency compliance, and administrators can download the NETGEAR-GREENETHERNET-PRIVATE-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NETGEAR-GREENETHERNET-PRIVATE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Netgear managed switch
Monitoring Examples
An admin would poll agentGreenEeeMode to confirm EEE is enabled, then check agentGreenIntfEeeLpiHistoryEntry rows keyed by agentGreenEeeLpiHistoryIntfIndex and agentGreenEeeLpiHistoryIntfSampleIndex to see agentGreenEeeLpiHistoryIntfPercentLpiTime for each sampling interval. A port expected to be mostly idle but showing a persistently low agentGreenEeeLpiHistoryIntfPercentLpiTimeTotal might indicate a misbehaving EEE negotiation with the far-end device. agentGreenCumEnergySaving gives a running total useful for sustainability reporting, while agentGreenEeeTxWakeTime/agentGreenEeeTxIdleTime expose the configured transmit timers driving this behavior.
What Can Be Monitored
- EEE mode status
- per-interface low-power idle (LPI) time percentage
- cumulative energy savings
- EEE wake/idle timer configuration
