Category: Hardware Inventory

Description: Provides hardware inventory, alerting, and system management for IBM Netfinity servers through the Netfinity Manager agent.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is NETFINITYMANAGER-MIB?

NETFINITYMANAGER-MIB is an IBM vendor-specific MIB implementing the DMI (Desktop Management Interface) 'Manager package' for IBM's Netfinity server management agent, imported under the broader NETFINITYSERVICES-MIB dmiMibs branch. It defines DMTF-style component tables such as tComponentid2/eComponentid2 (manufacturer, product, version, serial number common to all managed components) and Remote System Manager tables — tRemoteSystems (on-line/off-line state, server/manager role flags, detected OS type and version, MAC address, presence-check interval) and tRemoteSystemGroups/tRemoteSystemGroupMap (keyword-based discovery grouping of remote systems). It is a management-agent inventory and discovery MIB rather than a hardware-sensor MIB, so it is useful for tracking which remote systems the Netfinity Manager console has discovered and whether they are currently reachable. It depends on RFC-1212/RFC1213-MIB/RFC1155-SMI for its legacy SMIv1 syntax, reflecting its 1990s DMI heritage. It is deployed on IBM Netfinity servers running the Netfinity Manager agent, and administrators can do a NETFINITYMANAGER-MIB download from IBM's legacy support archives to load it into a MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NETFINITYMANAGER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • IBM Netfinity server family (DMI/Netfinity Manager agent)

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls a11SystemState in tRemoteSystems for a given a11SystemTag; a transition from vOn-line to vOff-lineWithErrorCondition would indicate the remote system dropped off the network unexpectedly rather than through a clean shutdown.

What Can Be Monitored

  • component identification table entries (manufacturer/product/version/serial)
  • remote system discovery table (on-line/off-line state)
  • remote system group membership mapping
  • system group discovery keyword/trigger settings
  • presence-check interval configuration
