Description: Tracks hardware part numbers, serial numbers, and revision data for NBS optical chassis components.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is NBS-PART-MIB?
NBS-PART-MIB is an NBS optical transport equipment MIB for identification and inventory of field-serviceable hardware and firmware components in the chassis, as its module description states ("Identification and programming of field-serviceable components"). It exposes a hardware parts table (nbsPartHardTable) with per-component serial number, production ID, vendor, model, and hardware revision, plus a parallel firmware parts table (nbsPartFirmTable) for tracking installed firmware. This MIB directly supports monitoring the hardware and software (firmware) inventory status of the device — administrators use it to verify which physical card/module (by serial number and hardware revision) and which firmware version are installed in each slot, catching an unexpected component swap or an out-of-date hardware/firmware revision. It is indexed by interface (nbsPartHardIfIndex) alongside a part index, implying reliance on standard interface-indexing conventions. It is deployed on NBS optical transport/DWDM chassis systems for asset tracking and field-replaceable-unit management. Engineers can download the NBS-PART-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NBS-PART-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- NBS optical transport/DWDM chassis equipment
Monitoring Examples
Polling nbsPartHardTable (indexed by nbsPartHardIfIndex and nbsPartHardPartIndex) returns nbsPartHardSerialNumber, nbsPartHardVendor, nbsPartHardModel, and nbsPartHardWareRev for each field-serviceable component; comparing these values against an asset inventory would reveal an unexpected card swap or a component running an older hardware revision than the deployment standard, while the companion nbsPartFirmTable tracks installed firmware versions per component.
What Can Be Monitored
- hardware part serial numbers
- hardware/firmware revision
- vendor and model identification per component
- production ID
- field-replaceable unit inventory
