What Is Oplink-MIB?

Oplink-MIB is an enterprise MIB from Oplink Communications, a manufacturer of optical networking components such as EDFA amplifier modules and pluggable transceivers used in DWDM/optical transport gear. It exposes chassis/slot-level module inventory data: manufacturer name, module type, part and serial numbers, manufacture/calibration dates, and firmware version. Its monitoring value centers on hardware and firmware status: tracking which optical module occupies each chassis slot, verifying firmware version consistency across modules, and receiving notifications for module events, which together reveal whether an optical component is present, correctly identified, and healthy. It uses chassis/slot/item addressing conventions similar in spirit to entity-style MIBs but is a standalone enterprise module. It is deployed in optical transport/DWDM network elements in carrier and enterprise optical networks. Engineers can download the Oplink-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Oplink-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples

emuTable/emuEntry, indexed by emuChassisId, emuSlotId, and emuItemId, exposes emuMfgName, emuModuleType, emuSerialNum, emuFirmwareVer, and emuCaliDate. An operator would poll emuFirmwareVer across every slot to confirm all EDFA or transceiver modules in a chassis run the approved firmware version, and watch oplkemuNotifications traps for insertion, removal, or fault events tied to a specific chassis/slot. A mismatched emuFirmwareVer or an unexpected removal notification would flag a module needing attention.
