Category: Products/Registration, Switch Management

Description: Manages NBase G1 series switch port configuration and network status.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is NBASE-G1-MIB?

NBASE-G1-MIB is a private MIB for the NBase (NBase-Xyplex/NBase Communications) G1-series Ethernet switches, providing system-level status and configuration objects for the switch platform. It exposes firmware version, port count, restart/reset counters and causes, last-error information, switch database size, NVRAM defaults, statistics-reset controls, and Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) state. This makes it a hardware/software status MIB well suited to monitoring device health: firmware version (nbsSysFwVers), number of restarts and time since last restart/error (nbsSysNumRestarts, nbsSysErrUptime), and last error code (nbsSysLastError) directly reveal device stability, while STP state objects reveal Layer 2 topology health. It is a self-contained vendor MIB that does not appear to heavily depend on other standard MIBs beyond basic SNMP framework conventions. It is typically deployed on legacy NBase G1-series managed Ethernet switches in enterprise wiring closets. Engineers can download the NBASE-G1-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NBASE-G1-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • NBase-Xyplex G1-series managed Ethernet switches

Monitoring Examples

An operator polling nbsSysNumRestarts alongside nbsSysErrUptime and nbsSysLastError can detect a switch that has been unexpectedly rebooting and identify the last recorded error code causing the resets. nbsSysRunStpState versus nbsSysStpEnable reveals whether Spanning Tree is both configured and actually running, and nbsSysSwitchDBSize can flag a MAC address table approaching capacity.

What Can Be Monitored

  • firmware version
  • restart count and uptime since last error
  • last error code
  • STP enabled/running state
  • switch (MAC) database size
