Description: Manages VLAN tag assignment, S-tag/C-tag stacking, and tagging policy on NBS optical Ethernet equipment.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is NBS-VLAN-TAGS-MIB?
NBS-VLAN-TAGS-MIB is a private MRV/NBS MIB for configuring VLAN tagging and tag-stacking policy on ports of NBS optical Ethernet equipment, covering actions like tag push/pop, S-tag/C-tag assignment, VLAN ID, and 802.1p priority per port. It is primarily a configuration-oriented MIB describing per-port tagging behavior rather than exposing performance counters. Its monitoring relevance is in confirming that VLAN tag actions and VIDs are correctly and consistently applied across ports, which is important for diagnosing service-affecting misconfigurations in QinQ/VLAN-stacked carrier Ethernet services. It builds on the IEEE 802.1Q/802.1ad VLAN tagging and stacking standards. It is deployed on NBS/MRV carrier Ethernet access and aggregation switches that provide VLAN-based service delivery. Engineers can download the NBS-VLAN-TAGS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NBS-VLAN-TAGS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- MRV/NBS carrier Ethernet access/aggregation switch
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would walk nbsVlanTagsPortTable/nbsVlanTagsPortEntry by nbsVlanTagsPortIfIndex to verify nbsVlanTagsPortAction (e.g., push/pop/swap), nbsVlanTagsPortVid, and nbsVlanTagsPortPriority match the intended service configuration for that port. An unexpected nbsVlanTagsPortVid value on a customer-facing port could indicate a provisioning error causing traffic to land in the wrong VLAN or service instance. Reviewing nbsVlanTagsPortTableSize alongside the table helps confirm all expected ports have tagging policy entries provisioned.
What Can Be Monitored
- per-port VLAN tag action
- assigned VLAN ID (VID)
- 802.1p priority per port
- tag table size/provisioning completeness
