Category: VLAN Management
Description: Manages TP-Link switch MAC-based VLAN assignment rules mapping source MAC addresses to VLANs.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is TPLINK-MAC-VLAN-MIB?
TPLINK-MAC-VLAN-MIB is a TP-Link private MIB for configuring MAC-based VLAN assignment, which maps specific source MAC addresses to a VLAN so devices are placed into the correct logical network regardless of which physical port they connect to. It exposes a MAC-VLAN configuration table defining the MAC-address-to-VLAN mapping rules and a per-port table indicating which ports have MAC-VLAN classification enabled. Its monitoring focus is configuration status - confirming which MAC addresses are mapped to which VLANs and which ports apply this classification - rather than hardware sensor data. It complements the standard IEEE 802.1Q VLAN model implemented in TPLINK-DOT1Q-VLAN-MIB by adding MAC-based classification on top of port-based VLANs. It is deployed on TP-Link managed switches in environments needing mobile or unmanaged-port VLAN assignment, such as classifying VoIP phones regardless of switch port. Engineers can download the TPLINK-MAC-VLAN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TPLINK-MAC-VLAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- TP-Link managed switch
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll macVlanConfigTable to review configured MAC-address-to-VLAN mapping rules, and macVlanPortTable (macVlanPortEntry) to confirm on which ports MAC-VLAN classification is enabled. If a device with a known MAC address isn't landing in its expected VLAN, checking these tables reveals whether the mapping rule is missing or the port has classification disabled; tplinkMacVlanNotifications would signal related configuration-change events.
What Can Be Monitored
- MAC-address-to-VLAN mapping rules
- per-port MAC-VLAN classification enable state
