Category: Frame Relay, MPLS Traffic Engineering

Description: Defines IETF draft SNMP objects for managing MPLS label-controlled Frame Relay interfaces and label distribution.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is MPLS-LC-FR-MIB-DRAFT-01?

MPLS-LC-FR-MIB-DRAFT-01 is an early IETF draft module (per RFC 3034) defining managed objects for MPLS Label-Controlled Frame Relay (LC-FR) interfaces, which map MPLS labels onto Frame Relay DLCI ranges so that Frame Relay switches can participate in a label-switched network. It exposes interface configuration for splitting a DLCI range between labeled traffic and control traffic, row-status-based provisioning, notifications, and standard conformance groups. Monitoring emphasis is on interface provisioning status: row status reveals whether an LC-FR interface configuration is active, and the DLCI range objects confirm correct label/control traffic separation on that interface. It depends on RFC 3034's LC-FR framework and implicitly on base MPLS and Frame Relay MIB conventions for underlying interface objects. Typical deployment is legacy Frame Relay/MPLS edge routers or switches performing label-controlled Frame Relay interworking. Engineers implementing or auditing this functionality typically reference the MPLS-LC-FR-MIB-DRAFT-01 RFC/standard documentation for the authoritative specification.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MPLS-LC-FR-MIB-DRAFT-01. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
  • MPLS/Frame Relay label-switching router

Monitoring Examples

An admin polls mplsLcFrIfConfTable (mplsLcFrIfConfEntry) and checks mplsLcFrIfConfRowStatus for a given interface to confirm it is active rather than stuck notReady. mplsLcFrTrafficMinDlci/mplsLcFrTrafficMaxDlci versus mplsLcFrCtrlMinDlci/mplsLcFrCtrlMaxDlci show how the DLCI range is split between labeled traffic and control traffic, and mplsLcFrNotifications would alert on a misconfiguration or state change on that interface.

What Can Be Monitored

  • interface row status/provisioning
  • traffic DLCI range
  • control DLCI range
  • label-controlled FR interface configuration
