Category: Power Management, UPS

Description: Tracks battery status, load, and power events for Minuteman/Para Systems UPS units.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is MG-SNMP-UPS-MIB?

This is a private MIB (associated with Merlin Gerin/Minuteman/Para Systems UPS lineage) for monitoring uninterruptible power supply units, exposing manufacturer/model identity along with 'manager' (network management card) inventory objects. It covers device identification (family, model, revision, firmware version, serial number, installation date) and a table of management interface cards associated with the UPS. While the captured object list emphasizes identity data, MIBs in this family typically also expose battery status, load percentage, input/output voltage, and power event (on-battery, low-battery, overload) traps, making this squarely a power-hardware health MIB. It is a private vendor MIB, sometimes used alongside the standard UPS-MIB (RFC 1628) where both are supported for broader tool compatibility. It is deployed in data centers, server rooms, and network closets to protect against power loss, giving operators advance warning of battery depletion or utility power failure through MG-SNMP-UPS-MIB SNMP monitoring of the UPS and its management cards.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MG-SNMP-UPS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Minuteman/Para Systems (Merlin Gerin lineage) UPS unit

Monitoring Examples

A facilities monitoring system would poll upsmgIdentFirmwareVersion and upsmgIdentSerialNumber to maintain an accurate hardware inventory of UPS units across sites, flagging any running outdated firmware. mgmanagerDeviceNumber and upsmgManagersTable would be walked to enumerate all network management cards reporting into a given UPS, useful in larger installations with multiple management interfaces. In combination with battery/load objects from this or a companion standard UPS-MIB, an operator would be alerted the moment a unit switches to battery power during a utility outage.

What Can Be Monitored

  • UPS model/family and firmware version
  • serial number and installation date
  • management card inventory
  • battery/power event status (via companion objects)
