Description: Defines Data Center Bridging (DCB) traps and events for Mellanox network switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is MELLANOX-DCB-TRAPS-MIB?

This is a Mellanox Technologies vendor MIB module that defines traps/notifications and status objects for Data Center Bridging (DCB) features on Mellanox Ethernet switches, specifically Enhanced Transmission Selection (ETS) and Priority Flow Control (PFC). It exposes per-port administrative, operational, and peer negotiated state for both ETS and PFC protocols, along with associated trap notifications sent when these states change. Its monitoring focus is the operational health of lossless/QoS fabric features: operators use it to confirm DCB negotiation with a peer device succeeded and to be alerted via traps when PFC or ETS state changes unexpectedly, indicating a misconfigured or flapping data-center-bridging link. It builds on the IEEE 802.1Qaz/802.1Qbb DCB standards, complementing generic DCBX-related MIBs. It is deployed in data-center fabrics using RoCE or other lossless Ethernet transport, where Mellanox switches need consistent DCB configuration with connected NICs and switches, and administrators can download the MELLANOX-DCB-TRAPS-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MELLANOX-DCB-TRAPS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Mellanox Ethernet switch

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll mellanoxDCBPortTable / mellanoxDCBPortStatusEntry to compare mellanoxDCBPortETSAdminState against ETSOperState and ETSPeerState, revealing whether a port's ETS configuration was successfully negotiated with its link partner. Similarly, PFCAdminState vs. PFCOperState/PFCPeerState mismatches would flag a port where lossless PFC negotiation failed, a common cause of RoCE packet loss. mellanoxDCBTrapsMibNotifications would fire when the global mellanoxETSProtocolState or mellanoxPFCProtocolState transitions, alerting operators in near-real-time without needing to poll every port.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ETS admin/operational/peer state per port
  • PFC admin/operational/peer state per port
  • global ETS/PFC protocol state
  • DCB state-change traps
